Intermixing like a Smorgasbord

Postmodernism is a big melting pot, similar to America. Where you can find different cultures, beliefs, ideologies all wrapped up into one. After the first reading the introduction was very clear except for the introduction to Mr. Jean Baudrillard; but the next reading is all about him so that should help. The comparison between hyperreality and Disney World seems a bit dramatic? Why are they putting such a focus on this topic? I understand that Disney provides America with a sort of "Dream Land", but this article puts a negative twist on it for a place that people go to action and get away from their everyday realities.

Visual Analysis

Viewing this piece, the first element that catches your eye is the large portrait of Lady Gaga from her famous Born this Way cover art... but something is different about it. It isn't a tradition flat photo, it looks like it was painted. The classic black and white photo with her iconic red lip is altered in such a way that it looks like it was created with ink. Coming out of the left side of Lady Gaga's head there is a winding multi color red tube looking path winding down the page. The composition of this piece includes predominately the golden triangle, radiating and leading lines. The colors that immediately catch my eye is that red path that matches Lady Gaga's lips, next is the soft pinks and blue in the back, then the stark black and white bottom corners. It is a quite complementary scheme. Event II: Art Party

After attending the Art party in the Merlot house, I got to see some of the Life Drawing class’ work. Walking around I saw all of the student’s homework assignments. A friend of mine, Lucy Fanto is currently in that class and noted that the class provides an amazing new perspective in art. “Chris is the most experienced knowledgeable art teacher I have had here, with all the courses available this one seemed like the best fit for my intended major of painting.” She noted that the most challenging part of the course is making sure that the homework is up to par with the rest of her projects. She noted that setting aside time for this homework specially is extremely important so she can actually put her full effort in. I was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar face; a student had painted a portrait of a beauty blogger that I have been watching for years by the name of Desi Perkins. BMA Extravaganza

This piece named "Standing Odalisque" by Henri Matisse was my favorite one out of my three choose ones, I like it the best because of how realistic the woman's body is to an average American women today. It was honestly so refreshing to see a woman depicted with a normalized body instead of the stick skinny girls I see every single day on social media.  The texture and concept also caught my attention. It looks effortless and sophisticated due to the mix of the warm and cool colors added. The composition of this piece uses the vertical rule of thirds, L shapes, and I can even notice the golden triangle. There are leading lines that head towards the focal point which is the girl. My next favorite piece was the "Traveling Circus" by Paul Klee, it caught my eye immediately because of the dot detailing.
